Season Five begins with the introduction of new contestants, who this time will work in pairs instead of individually. Among the teams are brothers, best friends and ex-partners who will be coached by Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels.

The nine remaining pair of contestants are tempted by the smells from a barbecue buffet, and learn that Jillian and Bob will be training them together. Also, a challenge involving a seesaw.

Rifts form between the contestants as the eight teams vie for immunity.

Three teams begin to second guess themselves when a plot to throw the weigh in is engaged. Next, one of the pairs has set themselves apart from the pack, while the challenge includes a reward of letters from home.

The contestants are put through an escalator challenge in which the results change the face of the game. Also, this weeks temptation is a tap full of soda pop, and when a team fights back to clear their name when accused of being lazy.

The contestants compete in a cook off challenge, judged by chef Rocco DiSprito, who prepares a special meal for the winning couple. Also, an injury is suffered by one of th strongest competitors, and one competitor is surprised by a special visitor.

In this week's episode, one team retaliates after being called lazy by another team, and the willpower of the contestants is put to the test during a soda temptation. Then the game is changed forever - for trainers and contestants - after a dramatic escalator challenge.

The teams are without Bob and Jillian for the first time as they each go home and must train on their own.

One lucky team wins a trip to Las Vegas. The elimination round takes a twist when one contestant makes an unexpected sacrifice.

The contestants fly over a ravine on a zip line for this weeks challenge. Meanwhile, the outcome of one player's game may be determined by the immunity challenge.

The eliminated contestants come back to join the six remaining players for a special weigh in. The male and female who have lost the most weight between those previously eliminated are invited to return.

It's makeover week, and legendary fashion maven Tim Gunn helps the contestants find flattering new clothing styles and haircuts. Then in this week's challenge, players must walk backwards on treadmills suspended above water - and two contestants battle it out for more than an hour.

The six remaining contestants compete in a pop quiz for a prize. The challenge finds the players giving extra calories to their opponents.

The five remaining contestants are headed to Australia as a surprise. they will be challenged to race around Sydney and then make it to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The final week on campus finds the four remaining contestants to train themselves, and chef Rocco DiSpirito serves up more cooking secrets.

It's a special reunion as the contestants are weighed in one last time to show just how much weight they have lost since this journey began. A contestant is voted off and joins the 16 others for a chance at winning the $100,000 at home prize. Finally, the remaining three will find out who was voted as the biggest loser and the winner of $250,000.
